Mile Oak Farm -
1100 acres nestled in the beautiful South Downs behind Portslade near Brighton, is farmed by David Cross and his wife Julia. The Cross family have farmed here for almost 70 years, starting with David's grandfather. The farm was originally a combination of dairy and arable, but the dairy herd was sold in 2003 as milk production became less profitable and legislation increased.

The traditional-breed beef herd was built up after the dairy cows went and the farm shop was opened, and our own home produced fresh beef is one of the main products we sell.

Originally, the shop just sold horse feed for the growing population of horse liveries at Mile Oak Farm.

We have since expanded to sell a wide range of pet food, lamb from a local producer, plants, cakes and biscuits, fruit and vegetables, ice creams, hot and cold drinks, sausages and burgers (ideal for barbecues!).

We offer free delivery for larger items.

The shop also stocks local honey produced from hives on the farm, which is very popular with local people, especially effective against allergies and hayfever.

Gran Stead's Ginger drink is made in units based at Mile Oak Farm, and is also for sale in the shop.

Various animals are kept at Mile Oak Farm to keep the children amused - Albert the donkey, Chloe and Clover the goats, and an assortment of hens, ducks, geese, quail and the ever-popular (and noisy) peacocks!

In keeping with the countryside sports theme, an outside agent occasionally uses some of the land for clay shooting, quad biking and archery.
